Shine Bright with Us: Join Our... Team as a Master Instructor - Interior Design! JOB SUMMARY: Under general direction, performs all duties required to maintain a viable program. Responsible to complete instructional duties as assigned by the Vice President, Dean, and Department Chair, and to pursue the improvement of the instructional program. Performs all duties required to maintain a viable program. Delivers effective classroom performance, maintaining accurate student records, and ensuring the timely completion of grades. Responsible for program and curriculum development, contributes to community engagement, and actively participates in college committees. Serves as an active participant in course development, delivery, and evaluation. Participates in faculty meetings for organizing and providing educational experience leading to student credentialing and gainful employment in their respective field positions. Contributes to the recruitment and retention of students. Faculty may be assigned to teach at any IRSC campus, which change according to the needs of the program/department. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Assists with continuous improvement of Interior Design programs, including relevant industry-recognized credentials. • Retrieves, prints, and provides current approved modules and training materials. • Responsible to his/her Dean for effective classroom performance, including accurate completion and timely submission of grades. • Prepares and provides all lecture, laboratory and clinical instruction according to the required curriculum. • Follows current course outlines, objectives, and evaluation mechanisms for the program. • Increases use of educational technology instruction. • Maintains a lesson plan of daily instructional events. • Monitors student attendance and retention and document as required by the administration. • Grades assignments, returns graded assignments to students, and assigns final grades for all students in a timely manner. • Provides educational assistance to students during regularly scheduled times (i.e., office hours) or by appointment. • Advises students as it relates to school policies, satisfactory performance, etc. • In partnership with Program Coordinator and Dean, assists with development of student recruitment activities. • Participates in college and division recruitment activities as needed. • Employs strategies as directed by the college to effectively increase student retention as well as student recruitment. • Submits in writing current textbook, supply, and equipment needs to the textbook manager. • Complies, monitors, and maintains all safety procedures and best practices as required in industry. • Monitors and maintains all equipment and supplies needed for instruction in classroom and lab(s). • Establishes and maintains inventory of materials, tools, and equipment assigned to the program. • Maintains professional appearance at all times. • Communicates with Program Coordinator and Dean on all issues related to students. • Provides recommendations for annual budget(s). • Maintains professional expertise (faculty development) to meet accreditation standards by attending educational seminars in professional field, reading current literature, attending online courses, etc. • Performs all duties required to maintain a viable program. • Reinforces writing skills throughout the curriculum by assigning written work (i.e., papers, essays, examinations, etc.) whenever possible and appropriate. • Participates in college events, activities, and committee or workgroup assignments. • Responsible to Dean for the continued development of his/her own scholarship. • Maintains a comprehensive plan for his/her own self-evaluation and improvement of instruction. • Responsible for service to the college and to the community. • Performs duties as assigned on college-wide or statewide educational committees. • Meets classes on time and to be properly prepared, notify the Dean when ill or unable to meet such classes, and fill out such state and College forms as required to cover the absence(s). • Assumes night course teaching as well as off-campus site teaching as a regular part of teaching load. • During the contract period is responsible to the College for 40 hours per week to include office hours, committee work, student advisement, and classroom teaching activities, etc.; Days of college operations may change during the summer period, i.e., Mon-Thurs, 10 hrs. per day. • Submits complete course outlines and revisions to the Curriculum Support Office. • Follows through with agreed upon directed independent study (DIS) assignments. • Maintains professional conduct and behavior in the classroom and, at all times, when he/she is professionally involved with students. • As a responsible member of the Indian River State College faculty, demonstrates a professional attitude at all times as well as always maintaining a high ethical and moral behavior. • Displays an appropriate and sound attitude toward students, colleagues, supervisors, and the College community at large. • Responsible to complete instructional duties as assigned by the Vice President, Dean, and Department Chair, and to pursue the improvement of the instructional program. • Understanding of and commitment to Equal Access/Equal Opportunity. • Completes all other duties and responsibilities as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS: • Bachelor’s degree in architecture, interior design, or environmental design. • Minimum of five (5) years of proven work experience in architecture, interior design, or environmental design. • Experience with owning and operating own design business. • Excellent computer skills including a strong foundation in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, and industry-specific programs. • Demonstrated success in developing academic and/or professional development classes (preferred). • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills as well as the ability to multi-task. • Willingness to make students active partners in the teaching/learning process. • Ability to work independently as well as with students, faculty, staff and co-workers and be self-motivated. • Understanding of and commitment to Equal Access/Equal Opportunity. • Valid Florida Driver’s License. • The following is preferred: • Minimum five (5) years instructing experience. • Valid Interior Design license • Experience with architectural, interior design, or environmental design educational programs. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical requirements for this position include having the ability to regularly lift and or move up to 50 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; Ability to safely lift, hold, and carry up to 50 pounds of supplies and/or equipment needed for student training; Manual dexterity and balance required for demonstrating applications; Demonstration of appropriate skills as required by curriculum and standards; Ability to stand or sit for extended periods of time, walk, bend, lift, reach with hands and arms, and stoop; Ability to maintain and/or troubleshoot all lab equipment in the lab; Ability to bend down and get on knees while performing different techniques; Ability to present verbal lectures/demonstrations; Vision abilities sufficient to include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus; Excellent Hand-Eye coordination skills required to demonstrate appropriate skills required of the program; Ability to travel to and pick up miscellaneous supplies from local vendors for materials for student training and make good purchasing decisions or substitutions; Physically demonstrate new and unique methods and materials; IRSC expects its employees to follow proper safety standards while employed by the College This description is intended to indicate typical kinds of tasks and levels of work difficulty that will be required of positions given this title and shall not be construed as declaring every specific duty and responsibility of the particular position.
