Job Description
Position Summary
The Visual Merchandiser is responsible for translating Hickory Chair’s brand vision into a cohesive and elevated experience across the High Point showroom and other branded environments. Working with leadership, this hands-on role develops and executes creative strategies and compelling showroom narratives for each Market, ensuring every detail reflects the brand’s identity and delivers a refined, immersive presentation across all touchpoints.
Responsibilities
• Execute and contribute to showroom’s creative direction and merchandising strategy.
• Oversee all aspects of showroom presentation.
• Develop narratives that align with company’s vision for High Point Market and other branded spaces.
• Showcase product in a way that inspires, generates sales, and elegantly represents Hickory Chair.
• Oversee showroom budget.
• Collaborate with leadership product selections each Market.
• Serve as the primary contact for licensees regarding Market orders, visual elements, decorative details, installation process, timeline and budget.
• Coordinate with internal teams to meet Market deadlines.
• Assist with post-market photoshoots.
• Manage and maintain the Hickory Mezzanine showroom, an extension of the High Point Showroom, keeping the space set in a fashionable way year-round.
• Build/sustain partnerships with rug, lighting, art, and flower companies that are mutually beneficial.
• Write/oversee Market orders, ensuring accurate entry into the system at least three months before Market.
• Create training materials 1–2 months before Market to reflect showroom layout/narrative.
• Be present at each Market to interact with customers, gathering feedback to influence future Market presentations.
• Lead, motivate, and manage showroom staff to ensure efficient and effective execution each Market
• Requires occasional U.S. domestic travel
Job Requirements
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Interior Design, Visual Merchandising, Fine Arts, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in creative leadership, showroom design, or visual merchandising within high-end furniture, interiors, or retail.
• Strong spatial design skills with deep knowledge of lighting, proportion, and material application.
• Proven track record of creating immersive, successful showroom experiences that drive sales and reflect luxury brand standards.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite, and Microsoft Office; experience with SketchUp, Autodesk 3DS Max, or similar rendering software preferred.
• Strong budgeting skills with experience managing and tracking showroom and licensee budgets.
• Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
• Strong leadership, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Ability to balance creativity with business objectives, working both independently and collaboratively.
• Elevated aesthetic sensibility with an innate understanding of the luxury market and emerging trends.

• Able to travel to trade shows & active participation in bi-annual High Point Furniture Market, which includes walking/standing throughout extended shifts
