Residential Interior Designer — Project-Based

Seeking an Interior Design Intern / Residential Design Assistant to assist with the renovation and furnishing of a private residential project in Highland Park. This is a hands-on opportunity for someone with a strong interest in interior design, residential architecture, and product sourcing. The home is currently fully gutted and undergoing a complete renovation, so the project involves everything from fixtures and hardware to furniture, lighting, and decorative elements. The overall design direction has already been established through a designer's mood boards, elevations, 3D renderings, and other reference materials. We are looking for someone who can help take that direction and turn it into a fully specified, finished home. Responsibilities Research and source furniture, lighting, plumbing fixtures, hardware, accessories, and other interior products Research and specify items including showers, toilets, sinks, faucets, cabinet hardware, door hardware, lighting, mirrors, and other architectural/interior elements Identify products that fit the established design direction, budget, dimensions, and project requirements Create and maintain organized product/specification lists with dimensions, pricing, vendors, finishes, lead times, and links Assist with furniture layouts and interior space planning Review drawings, elevations, renderings, and design references to understand project requirements Assist with design research and development of additional options where needed Help coordinate selections and keep track of samples, finishes, materials, and purchasing information Assist with basic drafting/documentation as needed Communicate with vendors and manufacturers to obtain product information, pricing, availability, and samples Help organize and manage the many details involved in completing a full residential renovation Visit showrooms, suppliers, or project locations as needed Qualifications Currently studying or recently graduated in Interior Design, Architecture, Environmental Design, or a related field Strong visual/design sensibility and attention to detail Comfortable researching products and comparing options based on aesthetics, dimensions, specifications, and price Ability to read and understand architectural drawings, elevations, and/or 3D renderings Strong organizational and communication skills Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite and/or similar design software Experience with CAD, SketchUp, Rhino, or other 3D/drafting software is a plus Residential interior design, architecture, furniture, or product sourcing experience is a plus Able to work independently, research solutions, and take initiative A portfolio is required.
