About Us Our clients invite us into their homes to bring their visions to life. Our Design Team is a growing division of B. Oliver Designs for The Spotted Whale, which are high-end retail stores that specialize in coastal living decor and home accessories... Position The Junior Designer, working closely with the design team, store associates, and warehouse staff members, and using your educational background and experience, will be responsible for sourcing and selecting indoor and outdoor furniture, lighting, rugs, bedding, wallpaper, paint, artwork and accessories for our design clients. We are in growth mode and are looking for an individual invested in helping us continue to grow our program as we continue to add new locations along the New Jersey Coast and beyond. You must have proven experience in home design as well as proficiency with AutoCAD and space planning. Candidates should have strong interpersonal skills, project management skills, and the ability to work well in a team environment. We offer a competitive hourly rate based on experience in addition to potential for individual commissions. Job Duties and Responsibilities • Develop space planning concepts and mood boards for design clients under the direction of Sr. Designers • Sourcing and selection of furniture, wallpaper, paint, floor covering, lighting, bedding & home accessories for design clients • Ordering products and samples from manufacturers • Order tracking and follow up • Coordinate the availability and delivery timing of merchandise and products with vendors • In conjunction with Sr. Designers, meet with design clients and prepare follow up proposals and presentations. Travel to client sites, store locations, and warehouse facilities as needed. • Track design project work using time tracking application; update Design Services related spreadsheets; prepare of client invoices and proposals • Maintain Design Services sample/catalog library at Headquarters and Design Center showrooms • Manage client expectations and foster open communication and clear budget requirements Minimum Requirements • Proficiency in AutoCAD and space planning • Knowledge of interior design principles and practices • Knowledge of suppliers and manufacturers commonly used in interior design work • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to convey concepts and ideas clearly • Ability to multitask without losing attention to detail • Excellent Time Management skills • Must be able to travel to retail and client locations within NJ • Experienced with customer interface; retail experience preferred but not required • Previous residential interior design experience preferred Compensation and Benefits - Salary commensurate with experience level. - Individual project-based commissions Job Type: Full-time Pay: From $20.00 per hour Benefits: • 401(k) • 401(k) matching • Dental insurance • Health insurance • Paid time off Experience: • Interior design: 1 year (Required) Work Location: In person
