We’re a collaborative, detail-driven design studio with offices in Virginia and Alabama, and we’re looking for an Interior Designer II to join our growing team.
Position Overview
The Design Assistant plays a vital support role within the design studio, contributing to the seamless execution of interior design projects from concept through installation. This position requires a highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented individual who thrives in a fast-paced, creative environment. The Design Assistant supports Principals and the Design Team by assisting with client presentations, managing schedules, coordinating vendor communication, maintaining the materials library, and providing logistical and administrative support across multiple facets of the design process. A strong work ethic, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative mindset are essential. This is an ideal opportunity for someone passionate about design and eager to grow their skills within a high-performing team.
Key Responsibilities
• Support the design team in preparing and assembling high-quality client presentations, including mood boards, material samples, and digital presentations.
• Oversee the maintenance of the materials library, including organizing and cataloging samples, ensuring all items are properly filed, up to date, and in excellent condition, either through direct execution or by supervising an intern.
• Attend meetings and site visits as needed; take comprehensive, well-organized notes and distribute summaries to the appropriate parties.
• Provide basic drafting and drawing support using CAD or other design software under the direction of designers or project leads.
• Assist in onboarding and training newly hired Design Assistants, providing mentorship on systems, processes, and firm expectations.
• Assist with the coordination and execution of design installations, including packing, transportation oversight, styling, and on-site setup.
• Communicate with vendors and showrooms to gather and confirm product information, pricing, lead times, availability, account terms, and order status.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and presentable office environment at all times, ensuring readiness for client and vendor visits.
• Provide administrative support to the purchasing team, including order entry, data tracking, and document preparation.

Qualifications
• Adobe Suite (proficient), especially InDesign
• Sketch Up
• Microsoft Office Suite
• Mac utilization
• Graphic Design experience
• Zoom, Slack & Dropbox experience useful, but not required
• Excellent verbal & written abilities
• Knowledge of AutoCAD
Working Conditions
• Full-time, 40 hours per week.
• Based in Richmond, VA, with occasional travel between offices and to project sites.
• Must have reliable vehicle to travel to project sites
• Must feel comfortable working interactively with teammates and industry partners of our three offices located in Virginia and Alabama
Physical Requirements
• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Ability to view and interpret detailed drawings, renderings, and technical documents both digitally and on paper.
• Must be able to occasionally stand, walk, bend, and reach as needed to review materials, samples, or perform site visits.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds (e.g., material boards, sample boxes, or presentation materials).
• Must be able to clearly communicate with clients, team members, and vendors in both in-person and virtual settings.
• May require occasional travel to job sites, vendor showrooms, or client meetings.
