About this role
A Franklin Director of Design not only acts as a Senior Designer, excelling at all tasks encompassed in that role, but is also responsible for ensuring high-quality design services that are responsive to the needs of clients and sales team members. This individual is responsible for managing design department revenues and expenses and efficiently deploying design resources including staff and... contract services. The individual directs space planning and design efforts for Franklin.

• Acts as Senior Designer on selected projects.
• Understand ALL our business units’ offerings and implement them into the design thinking of your team; promote teamwork with all business sectors.
• Work with all Senior Leadership and marketing to fit interior design strategy to organizational vision.
• Interfaces with sales staff to market Planning Services capabilities and assist them in demonstrating the value of these service offerings to the customer. Participates in the marketing of and development of proposals and deliverable standards, including clear definition of scope, schedule and cost.
• Assists with Marketing pertaining to refreshes, branding requirements, general upkeep and compliance of consistent deliverables.
• Drive vision/implementation of Showroom Strategy alongside Sales Leaders.
• Develop an annual strategic plan for the design department that includes budget, goals, alignment with Franklin vision, training, and specific Rocks to drive the team to be extraordinary.
• Responsible for participation in recruiting, staff selection and retention of design staff
• Create and execute on-boarding program for each new hire to include software, vendor, process and dealer design knowledge needed to execute design role.
• Oversee design employees at Showroom office and remote locations.
• Monthly 1:1 with designers and check-ins with sales division leaders to provide frequent, constructive feedback to employees and team members, including written quarterly reviews.
• Build individual staff development plans for each team member and ensure they have the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to accomplish their goals. Include specific mentorship and training.
• Evaluate the progress on projects and vetting project design goals.
• Manage daily workload, audit turn-around times, oversee quality, accuracy / creativity of work product, utilizing strengths / mentor continuous growth of design team and assist with innovating.
• Create, implement and enforce design standards, templates and training materials.
• Stay relevant regarding competitive products, bid analysis needs assessments, presentation / rendering, space planning, codes, specifications and installation documents required.
• Be a contributing member to the Furniture Leadership Team in promoting Franklin and constantly working to improve your department in that endeavor.
• Track and monitor: Budget to actual, Time, Audits, Standards, Customer-facing meetings.
• Manage users for CET Configura, Steelcase, Project Matrix and licenses.
• Implement a style that respectfully challenges our clients understanding of appropriate interior design solutions.
• Constantly innovate the monthly design team meetings to charge, refresh and infuse energy to the team; evaluate and implement incentives and recognition that each team member responds to such as thank-you’s, gift-cards, team building, opportunities, etc.
• Participate in SC Design Community of Practice
• Participate in Solomon Coyle Design Community of Practice

Job Specifications:
Education and Training:
Bachelor’s Degree in Interior Design.
Work Related Experience:
A minimum of 8 years’ experience in commercial interior design. At least 2 years’ experience in managing staff resources.
