Position Overview
Title: Cabinetry Designer & Sales ConsultantType: Full-time
Reports to: CEO
This role combines design expertise with sales acumen. You'll guide clients from initial consultation through final installation, creating cabinetry solutions that transform their spaces while building a profitable book of business.
Primary ResponsibilitiesDesign (50%)
• Conduct in-home and showroom consultations with homeowners, designers, and builders
• Create detailed 3D renderings and technical drawings using CAD software
• Specify materials, finishes, hardware, and construction methods
• Develop custom solutions for kitchens, bathrooms, closets, and specialty spaces
• Collaborate with production team to ensure design intent is executed flawlessly
• Stay current on design trends, materials, and industry innovations
Sales (40%)
• Generate and qualify leads through showroom traffic, referrals, and networking
• Present design proposals and pricing with confidence and professionalism
• Guide clients through material selections and decision-making process
• Negotiate pricing and close sales while maintaining healthy profit margins
• Build relationships with interior designers, architects, and builders in your territory
• Achieve monthly and quarterly sales targets
• Manage sales pipeline and maintain accurate CRM records
Project Management (10%)
• Coordinate with production team on project timelines and specifications
• Communicate proactively with clients throughout fabrication and installation
• Conduct final walkthroughs and ensure complete client satisfaction
• Address any post-installation concerns or warranty issues
Target Market Specialization
You will focus on ONE of the following segments (based on your strengths and our needs):
Option A - High-End Homeowners & Interior Designers
• Direct-to-consumer residential projects ($30K-$100K+)
• Cultivate relationships with 15-25 interior designers
• Showroom-based consultations and in-home design visits
• Emphasis on design creativity and premium service
Option B - Custom Home Builders
• Production custom builders (3-15 homes/year)
• Volume pricing with healthy margins
• Quick turnaround on estimates and technical drawings
• Understanding of construction schedules and builder needs
Required QualificationsMust Have:
• 3+ years experience in kitchen/bath design OR custom cabinetry sales
• Proven design skills using CAD software (Chief Architect, 2020 Design, AutoCAD, or SketchUp)
• Sales track record of consistently meeting/exceeding quotas
• Strong communication skills - you'll present to homeowners, designers, and builders daily
• Technical aptitude - understand construction, cabinet terminology, and installation requirements
• Self-motivated - you'll manage your own pipeline and schedule
• Valid driver's license - client site visits required
Strongly Preferred:
• Kitchen & Bath Design certification (NKBA, AKBD, or CKD)
• Interior design background or degree
• Experience with custom/semi-custom cabinetry (not just big box)
• Existing relationships with local designers or builders
• Proficiency with 3D rendering software
Success Metrics (First Year)Months 1-3 (Onboarding)
• Complete product training and shadow senior designers
• Close first 3-5 projects with mentorship support
• Build pipeline of 8-10 active opportunities
Months 4-6
• Independently manage full sales cycle
• Close $50K-75K/month in new business
• Maintain 45%+ gross profit margin on projects
• Build network of 5-10 trade partners (if designer/builder focused)
Months 7-12
• Close $75K-100K/month consistently
• Achieve 30%+ close rate on qualified opportunities
• Develop reputation as "go-to" designer in your segment
• Generate 40% of leads from referrals and networking
