Job Summary: Salt Lake Community College is located in the Salt Lake Valley, nestled in the beautiful Wasatch Mountains. Therefore, the Interior Design department seeks to hire an active and engaged faculty member who combines disciplinary expertise with excellence in teaching and demonstrates a capacity for inclusive, collaborative, and innovative instruction.The Interior Design program is committed to excellence in educating students to work in the interior design profession. The selected candidate will work as a full-time, tenure-track faculty member in the Interior Design department. The successful applicant will join a robust department where faculty members are reflective practitioners and knowledgeable instructors in interior design. Faculty members at Salt Lake Community College support students seeking to enter the workforce or transfer to a four-year college or university by developing and maintaining high-quality, industry-standard curricula that provides students with the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in future careers.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties: TEACHING:
Under general supervision, the faculty member will prepare and teach a combination of traditional lecture/lab, hybrid (on-campus/online), remote broadcast, and/or fully online courses as assigned by the department. This position will include the development and teaching of foundational Interior Design courses that support all Interior Design program students. The faculty member will teach an average of 15 instructional units per semester (approximately 18 hours of in-class time per week during Fall and Spring semesters) in the Interior Design department at Salt Lake Community College. Regular full-time faculty members teach assigned day, evening, and weekend classes in accordance with established guidelines and policies. SLCC faculty participate in advising, committee assignments, academic and institutional support activities, and other duties as assigned. The assigned teaching load may consist of introductory courses, general education courses, and concurrent enrollment courses which require coordination of course curriculum paperwork, general education 5-year reviews, and adjunct training. Additional duties will include participation in Interior Design program curriculum development, annual program assessments, and periodic program reviews in collaboration with other program faculty.
PROFESSIONAL:
Becomes familiar with and abides by all college policies with immediate priority given to those policies that govern interactions with colleagues, staff, administrators, and departments throughout the college.
• Maintains professional etiquette in communication with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
• Works closely with department peers and administrators to understand processes and procedures leading to success as a contributing teacher and member of the academic unit.
• Maintains necessary education, credentials, professional skills, and demonstrated teaching competencies consistent with department standards.
• Solicits feedback and implements suggestions from students and peers, when appropriate.
• Expands knowledge in discipline and teaching craft on an ongoing basis.
• Promotes professional development of peers/colleagues through recognized professional activities (in‐service activities and the presentation of conference papers and/or publications, and other methodologies appropriate to the teaching field), as approved by the department.
• Participates in the collegial mentoring relationship, serving as a mentor and/or mentee in the department and college.
• Engages in local, state, and/or national professional organizations appropriate to the faculty role.
• Serves community partners as content area experts, when needed.
• Completes required training and participates in professional development.
SERVICE:
The faculty member will serve their program, department, school, college, and the larger community by attending both general and discipline-specific forums and meetings. Faculty are expected to serve on college and department committees, community committees, engage with the community in multiple roles, and mentor departmental adjunct faculty. The faculty member will also participate in professional development activities that are applicable to their growth as an artist and an educator.Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree in interior design.
• 3 years full-time Interior Design work experience.
Preferred Qualifications: 3 years of post-secondary teaching experience.Degree from a CIDA accredited school.Active NCIDQ certificate
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Exhibit knowledge of current best practices in interior design including interior design industry tools and software.o Manual and digital drawing and rendering.o Revito Adobe Photoshop and InDesigno Autodesk CADo SketchupPresent a strong, proven understanding of all aspects of interior design.Demonstrate teamwork.Communicate effectively through writing and speech.Possess strong management and organizational skills: be self-motivated to make decisions, multi-task, prioritize work and manage deadlines.Demonstrate participation in industry/community relationships.Demonstrate knowledge to teach a variety of courses.Possess and demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and abilities to maintain good working relationships across the College. Additionally, exhibit the ability to work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities.
