Studio Designer (Entry-Level) Atypical Design Studio – Salt Lake City, UT Full-Time, Hourly | Hybrid (3 Days In-Office, 2 Days Remote) About Atypical Design Studio Atypical Design Studio is a full-service interior design practice specializing in high-end residential and boutique hospitality projects. Our work is thoughtful, detail-driven, and collaborative — rooted in strong creative direction and precise execution. We are looking for a motivated, detail-oriented Studio Designer to support our team and help bring projects to life. Position Overview The Studio Designer plays a key supporting role in both the creative and technical execution of projects. This position is ideal for someone early in their career — either a recent graduate or with 1–2 years of experience — who is eager to learn, highly organized, and passionate about design. You’ll help ensure cohesion across all aspects of a project, bridging the gap between concept and execution while supporting the team with documentation, communication, and coordination. Objective Create cohesion across all aspects of a design project by ensuring details are accurate and the design vision is executed effectively. Support both the creative and technical sides of the process while maintaining clear communication with the team, vendors, and trades. Atypical Responsibilities Track hours using time tracking software Attend and contribute to weekly team meetings Help maintain office and material library organization Attend vendor meetings and support relationship building Tag expenses, maintain receipts, and submit mileage monthly Project Responsibilities Attend client meetings and take thorough, organized notes Post tasks, updates, and notes within project management systems Assist with ordering samples, pricing materials, and space planning Support Senior Designers with day-to-day project needs Procure and organize material quotes and vendor correspondence Source materials and furnishings within project budgets Maintain material specifications and spec sheets Produce construction documents, elevations, and mockups Apply working knowledge of construction codes Communicate with vendors, trades, and clients regarding schedules and updates Coordinate with purchaser and manage custom order follow-through Accurately input specifications into procurement software for purchase orders Track deliveries and inventory; update statuses accordingly Translate design concepts into drawing sets and mood boards Source finishes, furnishings, and fixtures per project scope Request quotes, lead times, and samples from vendors Assist in preparing presentation decks and physical material trays Support installation planning and day-of execution Maintain sample libraries, vendor updates, and spec documentation Contribute creative ideas and organized solutions throughout all phases Maintain strong attention to detail and visual consistency Qualifications Degree or formal education in Interior Design or related field 0–2 years of experience in an interior design studio (or relevant internships) Proficiency in: Archicad (preferred) or Revit AutoCAD SketchUp Adobe Creative Suite Familiarity with construction documentation and detailing Strong organizational and time management skills Excellent communication and note-taking ability Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment Detail-oriented with a strong visual sensibility Preferred Qualifications Experience with time tracking tools and procurement systems Familiarity with project workflows in a design studio environment Interest in high-end residential and hospitality design Why Join Atypical This is an opportunity to grow within a collaborative, design-focused studio while gaining hands-on experience across all phases of a project.
