Carrie Moore Interior Design is looking for an experienced and creative Interior Designer to join the Durham, NC studio. The ideal candidate combines artistic vision with a strong understanding of design principles. They are also detail-oriented, a strong communicator, collaborative, and tech-savvy. Carrie Moore Interior Design is a growing full-service studio based in Durham and Asheville, NC. We serve residential and commercial clients with a bias for nature-inspired, warm modern environments that affect people in an intentional, positive way. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Work directly with clients on projects including new construction, renovations, and furnishings. • Manage interior design projects including assisting in managing client expectations, team communication, and vendor coordination. • Collaborate with a team and work independently on design projects, including programming client needs, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and implementation. • Develop documents, including estimates, timelines, budgets, design programs, client presentations, specifications spreadsheets, design drawings and construction drawings. • Produce 2D drawings including floor plans, elevations, details, reflected ceiling plans, millwork design and furniture layouts in Sketchup and/or CAD. • Produce 3D models in Sketchup and/or CAD to convey designs. • Assemble construction drawing sets using Sketchup Layout and/or CAD. • Source furniture, fabrics, equipment, lighting, building materials, etc. • Assemble schedules for projects, including, but not limited to: materials (flooring, tile, millwork, countertops, paint, etc.), plumbing and bath accessories, lighting and electrical, and appliances. • Provide project team coordination for the finished plans, specifications, and material selections required for construction. • Work with consultants, contractors, and fabricators to meet overall project objectives. • Oversee installations/deliveries at project sites. • Resolve complex technical and design issues. • Some travel required. QUALIFICATIONS • Interior design degree required. • NCIDQ-certified, or on track to obtain, a plus. • A minimum of 5 years experience in a full-time interior designer position; 8+ years preferred. • Proficient in design software - SketchUp, SketchUp Layout, and AutoCAD preferred. • Flexibility to focus on a single client with a variety of project types or multiple projects in various stages of development. • Self-motivated and self-directed to be able to work independently as necessary. • Ability to write clearly and articulately with detailed attention to spelling, punctuation and grammar. • Ability to communicate design ideas and direction quickly. • Strong knowledge of the design process, including development of drawings and material and furniture selections and specifications. • Working knowledge of the architectural, landscape architectural, and building process -- understanding the role of interior design in this journey. • Understanding of codes affecting the design and documentation of their products. • Excellent client relations skills. • Project management skills (planning, organization, timelines, quoting, procuring, communicating, and implementation). • Familiarity with basic green building, healthy and sustainability principles, and nature-inspired design (biophilic). • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. • Strong leadership, communication and relationship management skills. • Outstanding graphic and in-person presentation skills.
