About this role

Company Description Onyx Design Collective is a full-service architecture and design firm focused on creating distinctive, high-end residential environments that enhance homes, communities, and lives. For over a decade, our team has refined both the art and technical execution of architectural design—delivering thoughtful, well-crafted spaces across the Intermountain West. We specialize in luxury custom homes, remodels, additions, and boutique developments, while also maintaining experience in commercial and civic work. At Onyx, we believe great design is intentional, collaborative, and built to last. Role Description – Full-Time Residential Designer This is a full-time role for a Residential Designer, located in the Salt Lake City Metropolitan Area, with a flexible hybrid work environment. The Residential Designer will play a key role in the design and documentation of custom homes and residential projects from concept through construction. This position involves working closely with clients, builders, and the internal team to develop creative, buildable, and code-compliant designs that align with Onyx’s high design standards. Daily responsibilities include: • Developing schematic designs, design development, and construction documents • Creating 3D models, renderings, and presentation materials • Coordinating with clients, consultants, and builders • Assisting in managing project timelines, deliverables, and revisions • Supporting permitting and ensuring compliance with applicable building codes • Qualifications • Proficiency in Revit (required) and familiarity with AutoCAD, SketchUp, Lumion, or similar tools • Strong residential design sensibility with an eye for detail, proportion, and materiality • Ability to produce high-quality construction documents and coordinate with consultants • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with clients, builders, and team members • Working knowledge of residential building codes and construction methods • Experience in custom residential design (luxury experience preferred) • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Architectural Design, or related field • Architectural licensure or progress toward licensure is a plus, but not required • Ability to work in a hybrid environment (office + remote) • What We’re Really Looking For (Onyx Fit) • Someone who cares deeply about design, not just drafting • Someone who can think like a builder, not just an architect • Someone who takes ownership and can run with residential projects • Someone who wants to grow into a larger role as the firm expands into design-build and development
