About this role
The CRD Interior Designer will combine design creativity and technical knowledge to produce beautiful residential renovations and remodels for our clients. The Interior Designer demonstrates exceptional design skills, has a background in residential design, and proven experience developing outstanding client relationships.
The Interior Designer works on projects from conception to construction administration and must have the ability to successfully work on multiple projects simultaneously. Responsible for designing within a client's budget, the Interior Designer has a working knowledge of construction and residential architectural building code. This position works closely with an Architect/Architectural Designer on most projects and is managed by the Design Department Manager.
(The Interior Designer is an integral part of the CRD team and actively contributes to a respectful, collaborative, and productive design team environment.)
Essential Functions:
• Performs all states of interior design, including site assessment and evaluation, programming, test fitting, space planning, conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction documentation.
• Through regular design meetings with clients, develops projects from programming through to detailed construction drawings; provides construction administration and site visits as needed.
• Develops designs within pre-determined scope, budget, and timeline; works diligently to stay within predetermined design fee for each project.
• Produces mood boards, material palettes, design presentations, and digital 3D view to communicate design concepts to client for approval throughout project.
• Produces plans, RCP, interior elevations, and enlarged plans to communicate design concepts to client for approval throughout project.
• Demonstrates familiarity with architectural residential styles, interior and exterior architectural finishes, elements, and terminology.
• Researches project appropriate FF&E, works with client to finalize selection, specifies interior and exterior FF&E; demonstrates technical knowledge of application of relevant finishes.
• Generates project specifications, finish schedules, and detailed design drawing set needed for construction.
• Works with project partner (Architect/Architectural Designer), Design Department Manager, and Production Team to meet project deliverables, timeline, and budget.
• Prepares permit paperwork, documents, and drawings to obtain permit (as needed); maintains current knowledge of construction and architectural building-codes.
• Collaborates with external consultants, product representatives, and fabricators to procure bids, place orders, verify shop drawings, and oversee project inventory.
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of residential design trends, finishes and cabinetry trends, residential building practices, and technical applications including relevant software.
• Behaves in a professional, positive, and courteous manner at all times.
• Other duties as assigned.
Office and Administrative Duties:
• Participates in meetings as requested, including weekly client meetings, team meetings, and design review meetings.
• Participates in all company events, including company meetings and training sessions.
• Fosters positive relationships and clear communications with clients, vendors, and team members.
• Adheres to company policies and procedures.
• Provides phone back up, receives office deliveries, and participates in office maintenance as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• BA in Interior Design or similar area of study. Some coursework and/or years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
• Minimum of three (3) years of residential remodel experience.
• Proficient in CAD Drafting; knowledge of ArchiCAD preferred.
• Proficient in FF&E procurement software; knowledge of Fohlio and BuilderTrend preferred.
• Proficient in hand sketching/drawing skills, space planning, and finishes selections.
• Knowledge of relevant residential building codes and practical understanding of construction.
• Knowledge of kitchen and bath industry standards.
• Strong knowledge of Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to work within deadlines and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
• Good communication skills, personable demeanor and sense of humor.
• Strong knowledge of appropriate English, spelling, grammar, punctuation and word usage and ability to communicate concepts, thoughts and ideas both written and orally to others.
• Ability to establish and maintain collaborative, effective working relationships with managers, peers, clients and other employees.
• Maintains a valid driver's license and state required insurance.
Physical Requirements:
• Ability to work in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
• Frequent standing, walking and sitting.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl.
• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds.
• Occasional lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds.
• Ability to work at computer or desk area for extended periods of time.
• Ability to use a computer and see color.
