1099 Designer – Custom Closets (In-Home Consultations) Company: ShelfGenie – Custom Closets Division Territory: Hampstead, NC to Murrells Inlet, SC Location: In-home consultations (local territory) Employment Type: Contract (1099) Compensation: Commission-based / per-project (No cap on earnings) About the Role We are expanding the custom closet division of our locally owned ShelfGenie business and are seeking an experienced designer to join our team on a 1099, project-based basis. Closet-specific experience is not required — we provide full training. What matters most is your industry background, ability to consult with homeowners in their homes, and skill in creating functional, well-planned storage solutions. This role is ideal for someone with experience in home design, cabinetry, kitchen & bath, storage, or space planning who enjoys autonomy, client interaction, and meaningful design work. Responsibilities • Conduct in-home consultations with homeowners throughout the territory from Hampstead, NC to Murrells Inlet, SC • Measure and evaluate spaces accurately • Collaborate with homeowners to create custom closet solutions • Present design options and guide clients to decisions • Work with operations and installation teams to ensure designs are install-ready • Make adjustments as needed throughout the design process • Qualifications Required • 2+ years in home design, cabinetry, kitchen & bath, storage, or related industry preferred • Strong client-facing and in-home consultation skills • Excellent measuring, space-planning, and problem-solving abilities • Comfortable discussing pricing, options, and value with homeowners • Professional, reliable, and self-motivated Preferred • Experience with design software (SketchUp, 2020, CAD, ClosetPro, or similar) • Consultative sales or client advisory background • Experience creating functional storage or cabinetry solutions Compensation & Benefits • Commission-based pay per project • Paid after installation and client payment • No cap on earnings • Established lead flow and operational support provided • Flexible, project-based schedule • Opportunity for ongoing work as the closet division grows Work Location In-home consultations across the territory from Hampstead, NC to Murrells Inlet, SC How to Apply • Submit a brief introduction and examples of prior design, cabinetry, or storage project work (portfolio, photos, or project descriptions).
