Lead Lighting Designer - Entertainment Venues

Our client, a dynamic creative studio specializing in the design and production of immersive experiences for the arts and entertainment sector, is seeking an innovative Lead Lighting Designer to join their team in Grand Rapids, Michigan, US . This role is instrumental in conceptualizing and executing stunning lighting designs that elevate performances, events, and installations. The Lead Lighting Designer will collaborate closely with directors, scenic designers, and technical teams to translate creative visions into functional and breathtaking lighting schemes. Responsibilities include developing lighting concepts, creating detailed lighting plots and cue sheets, specifying lighting fixtures and equipment, and overseeing the programming and execution of lighting systems. You will lead and mentor a team of lighting technicians and programmers, ensuring a cohesive and high-quality output. The ideal candidate will possess a Bachelor's degree in Lighting Design, Theater Technology, or a related field, along with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in lighting design for live events, theater, concerts, or themed attractions. Strong proficiency in industry-standard lighting design software (e.g., Vectorworks, AutoCAD, Wysiwyg, ETC Eos family consoles) is required. A deep understanding of color theory, luminaire technology, and stagecraft is essential. Excellent creative vision, technical acumen, and strong communication and collaboration skills are crucial. This hybrid role requires both on-site presence for design reviews, client meetings, and installation oversight, as well as the flexibility to work remotely on design development and documentation.
