Job Description: Lead Interior Designer Department: Design... Supervisor: Design Manager We intend to fill this position with a candidate who brings with them a critical and related set of skills, knowledge, and experiences that we might not already have on the team. Primary Function: Leverages advanced design/product knowledge and experience to elevate the design studio and customer experience, in particular with key clients. Partners with Workplace Consultants and Consulting Team upfront in the early client discovery phase. Provides mentoring and training to team members. Responsibilities: • Partner with Workplace Consultants and Consulting Teams on new client engagements • Develop creative and innovative design solutions to solve for client needs, aesthetics and budgets that demonstrate the potential of a space while maintaining compliance with all local codes, accessibility, environmental, and sustainability guidelines • Develop space plans, furniture plans, design decks, renderings, installation drawings, and material and finish selections • Translate research and insights into holistic applications, written deliverables and formal presentations • Conduct site surveys and inventory verifications as needed • Owns high profile and complex projects from inception to design completion • Lead client presentations and design studio tours • Successfully partner with A+D firms and influencers • Develop and utilize design standards and templates • Ability to recognize and seek value engineering solutions as needed. Works with the project team to seek solutions. • Fully understand all stages of design projects, from concept to installation, and coordinates with internal team to complete projects efficiently and on time • Delegate successfully to teammates, outsource and contract resources • Mentor junior designers and interns • Develops and/or organizes trainings for team • Oversight of outsourced resources • Participate in recruitment of new team members and conduct professional interviews for potential candidates • Build and maintain relationships with key partners internally and externally • Participates in Hyphn leadership initiatives • Strategic thought partner for Design Manager to develop the team and tools for future growth • Proxy for Design Manager as and when needed • Special projects and stretch assignments as assigned Key personal skills: • Exceptional attention to design details • Readily accepts new challenges and seeks to improve skills and knowledge • Able to clearly communicate direction and provide feedback to teammates • Able to manage workflow with multiple projects and meet critical deadlines in a fast paced work environment • Can manage internal process and communicate deadlines, requests, and client needs internally and externally • Successful work performance demonstrating an ability to communicate effectively, work well independently and as part of a team • Uses productive work methods • Exercises sound judgment and displays initiative and innovation on the job • Self-motivated and self-directed • Proven leadership ability Qualifications: • Interior Design degree • Minimum 7 years of experience in furniture/office/space planning with CET, AutoCAD, or other CAD program • Steelcase or contract furniture product knowledge preferred • PC proficiency with Google Workspace or similar office productivity software suite • Hedberg experience is a bonus Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to sit, communicate, reach and manipulate objects, tools or controls. Minimum physical exertion. Duties involve moving materials weighing up to 10 pounds on a regular basis and up to 20 pounds on an occasional basis. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 75% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, phone, and similar machines.Occasional travel to local job sites for client meetings, finish selections and field verification is also required in this position. Work Environment: Working Design Studio – mostly quiet office environment with occasional customer tours.
