Interior Designer – Education, Sports + Culture Team
Kahler Slater is seeking an Interior Designer with 5+ years of experience for our Education, Sports + Culture Team in delivering higher education, sports and recreation and/or civic cultural projects.
Our ideal Interior Designer is a problem solver with a passion for Education, Sports + Culture projects. As an Interior Designer, you will bring an entrepreneurial spirit and the desire to cultivate a strong studio culture.
You will work with a team that is aligned with our open and flexible culture that encourages individual initiative and collaboration. You will build trusting relationships within the team and across Kahler Slater.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities of an Interior Designer:
Collaborate with project teams across all phases of design to develop and communicate design intent.
Focus primarily on higher education, sports and recreation, and civic/cultural projects, with flexibility to support other project types as needed.
Develop drawings, presentations, and specifications using Revit and other design tools to clearly communicate design intent.
Attend client meetings, contribute ideas, and apply feedback to designs.
Collaborate with project team to ensure seamless integration of interior design with building systems and support project execution through construction.
Select and Specify FF&E: Curate furniture, finishes, and equipment that support the project’s aesthetic, performance, and budgetary goals.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities of an Interior Designer:
BA or BS in Interior Design or Architecture
5+ years of experience on projects, with increasing responsibilities
Experience in higher education, sports and recreation and/or civic cultural projects building typologies
Strong communication skills, spoken, written, and graphic
Proficient in Revit. Ability to work in Enscape, SketchUp & Adobe Creative Suite
Skilled in FF&E selection
Experience working on Wisconsin DFD projects is a plus
Evidence of successful team-orientation and collaboration behaviors
Ability to work independently and adjust to changing priorities and flexibility to meet tight deadlines
Maintains a positive, professional attitude
Working Relationships and Scope of an Interior Designer:
Reports to Education, Sports + Culture Team Leaders
Work in collaborative studio environment – mix of virtual and in person
Represents the firm in alignment with Kahler Slater’s core values
Career goal of becoming a registered Interior Designer
Interacts with external clients and partners
Working Conditions of an Interior Designer:
Work is performed in a professional, collaborative, creative, open office environment. Great flexibility in your schedule is both required of you and returned to you due to our many project deadlines. Occasional travel is expected as it relates to servicing clients and professional development. This is a hybrid role, requiring an average of 2–3 days per week in our Milwaukee, Madison or Richmond offices, with flexibility in choosing which days work best for you.
