The Interior Design Department/Discipline Manager is a full-time position, responsible for promoting design leadership and integrating best practices into the work of the discipline area. The manager will provide appropriate resources to perform assigned work, forecast staffing/resource needs based upon project plans, and integrate the quality management system into work efforts. Duties include assisting Project & Client Managers by providing a design team to help achieve project goals and partnering with market segment leaders in the development of new clients. Manager and direct reports will also participate in direct sales efforts.
Direct reports work from multiple office locations and Department/Discipline Manager is responsible for ensuring consistency of quality, approach, and practices within the discipline area.

Responsibilities
Supervisory Responsibilities:
• Growing, mentoring, and developing the staff within discipline area to allow each person to achieve their maximum potential.
• Annual evaluations for each direct report.
• Providing technical guidance/leadership for discipline area.
• Organizing staff in a way to allow career advancement, professional development, quality client service, and operational efficiencies to meet business and project financial goals.
• Taking a very active role in recruitment of staff in discipline area including networking, interviewing and hiring.
Direct Responsibilities/Duties:
• Technical and Quality oversight of all project work for discipline area.
• Establishing/improving standards for discipline area.
• Adherence to project design schedule.
• Notification to Project/Client Managers if established project design schedule cannot be met, preferably at least 2 weeks prior.
• Adherence to discipline project budget. Review and provide updates on project budgets at milestone dates. Reviewing discipline budgets weekly.
• Attention to project scope during the project to identify potential additional services.
• Identify staff performing design of the project and approve timesheets.
• Provide general updates of projects (status in the process, tasks to complete, percentage complete currently, etc.)
• Identify milestone dates when each discipline should provide information, at each phase, to allow sufficient time to perform good design coordination.
• Provide 'on-the-spot' advice and decisions, technical and cost estimates.
• Coordination with all of the disciplines involved, including outside consultants.
• Work schedule for discipline showing:
• Project assignments, priorities, and Workload/Capacity forecasts
• Simply put – Discipline Managers control all production resources and all commitments must come from Discipline Manager. Conversely – accountability for our deliverables comes from Discipline Manager.
• Take active role in developing annual sales goals commensurate with projected growth and championing/executing strategy to grow ID practice area.
• Coordinate with ID Leaders throughout the company to promote One Dewberry Interior Design practice area.
Supervision Received:
• Receives general direction of key objectives from Supervisor. Goal attainment reviewed annually.

• Utilization goal:
• 80% Direct Labor on projects related to your subject matter expertise
• 20% Indirect Labor
• Focus on promoting design quality that is consistent with company sustainability goals.
• Provide support to regional business development activities by sharing intelligence, participating in interviews, and coaching staff.
Required Skills & Required Experience
• Accomplished (15+ years’ experience) registered Interior Designer, familiar with AIA and similar services and construction contracts; self-motivated with highly developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
• Market facing and proven ability to promote Dewberry and Interior Design Practice through contact with current/potential clients and verbal, graphic or written presentations.
• Driven to expand practice area and recruit quality hires.
• Experience in staff management/department management.
• Experience in the design of various commercial-grade interior spaces (including furniture procurement), familiarity with public bidding procedures, and an understanding of document preparation utilizing a BIM/Revit platform.
• Well organized.
• Good conceptual understanding of design processes, programming, and cost budgeting.
