Position Description Advertised Job Summary Meet with project managers and University customers to establish furniture design criteria and budget, interior finish criteria and budget, project programming, space planning and specification of furniture. Confirm project scope with respect to furniture and interior finish requirements of capital projects. Review finish selections of consultants on projects. Verify working budget and modify work scope as needed with respect to budget. Work collaboratively with outside consultants on large and/or complex capital projects to select appropriate furniture and finishes that meet the University standards for quality and cost. Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in related field and 4 years related experience, or Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree in Interior Design or Interior Architecture from a CIDA-accredited program and 6 years of experience in renovation and new construction projects for commercial and/or institutional project types. Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office computer programs is required. Driver's license required. Preferred Qualifications Master's or Bachelor of Science and minimum 15 years of experience in renovation and new construction projects for commercial and/or institutional project types. Knowledge of AutoCAD, Revit and PeopleSoft software preferred. Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Applicable knowledge of building codes (International Building Codes) and accessible design (ICC-ANSI A117.1) and the Americans with Disability Act. Production of architectural construction documents / interior design projects with samples of work. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 30 Job Duty • Manage internal projects through complete project cycle (meetings, site investigation, schematic design, construction documents, and construction administration). • Establish project completion schedules in conjunction with internal clients, project managers and the Registrar, among others. • Manage multiple projects concurrently, prioritizing projects as needed to meet established deadlines. Field questions related to assigned projects. • Verify effect of existing conditions and hazardous materials issues on projects; consult with USC EH&S (Safety) as required. • Verify that construction is in compliance with construction documents and/or installation drawings through site visits as required. • Provide move management services for swing moves and final moves per project requirements. Document project status through written communication. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 25 Job Duty • Review furniture specifications and quotes for all projects. • Prepare furniture budget estimates for assigned renovation and capital projects. • Coordinate with Procurement to establish work flow for each project (a procurement plan) and establish bid requirements for the purchase of furniture. • Develop procurement processes for the Interior Design team following the requirements of the State contracts and State procurement procedures. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 20 Job Duty • Establish technical requirements and develop interior design standards for the selection of furniture and interior finishes, University-wide. • Provide advanced knowledge of furniture, including but not limited to classrooms, office and systems furniture. • Communicate with vendors to develop specifications and assemble quotes for clients on assigned projects. Schedule, oversee and inspect furniture deliveries and installations, document punch list items and follow up on completion. • Lead meetings with product vendors, research technical specifications and product warranties, contact vendors /suppliers in retaining product information and quotes. • Place furniture orders and approve pay applications from vendors. • Develop furniture and interior finishes selection processes. • Oversee maintenance of interior design library as required. Essential Function Yes Percentage of Time 10 Job Duty • Maintains knowledge of and implements University and industry requirements, procedures, and standards including but not limited to state procurement law, Office of State Engineer, DHEC, City of Columbia, State Fire Marshall, Erosion & Sediment Control, Flood Plain and Zoning, LEED certification, historic preservation, any other applicable codes, and the University's master plan by reading, researching, reviewing, attending conferences, training, and meeting with internal and external personnel.
