Position Overview
The ideal candidate is a graduate of a recognized design school, accredited by the Council for Interior Design Accreditation (CIDA), and holds certification from the National Council for Interior Design Qualification (NCIDQ).Their perfect fit will have over 5 years of experience, including significant involvement in large-scale projects. Initially, this Interior Designer will focus on two ongoing airport projects, with the exciting prospect of contributing to a diverse range of other projects. This could encompass museums, offices, cultural centers, government buildings, embassies, courthouses, educational facilities, convention centers, laboratories, and more.
Responsibilities
• Being able to work with a large project-specific team.
• Coordinate with Associate Architects, Consultants, Contractors, and Engineers.
• Develop and draft plans, elevations, sections, and details as required to express interior design intent developed by the Project Architect-Lead Designer and/or Project Interior Designer based on knowledge of or research of appropriate products, materials, and building systems.
• Detail one or several aspects of components of the design project with limited or no direction.
• Coordinate notes and materials incorporated in detail in order to coordinate drawings with specifications.
• Develop and follow through on interior design concepts laid out by the Project Architect-Lead Designer and/or Project Interior Designer.
• Produce interiors presentation documents to describe the design intent.
• Assist with design development and construction documentation production to the extent necessary to complete the project.
• Assist in the preparation of design, design development, or construction drawings, including finish schedules and finish plans, reflected ceiling plans, and millwork details.
• Interpret redlined changes to update drawings. Understand and apply the firm’s policy regarding client/project confidentiality and utilize judgment to maintain the confidentiality of such information.
• Develop interior design concepts in conjunction with the Project Architect-Lead Designer.
• Select and specify fixtures, furnishing, and equipment (FFE) compatible with the design intent.
Requirements
Depending upon the level (Recent College Graduate, I, II, III, Senior), will have the knowledge or ability to:
• Demonstrate proficiency with different software programs such as Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Sketch-Up to create computer drafted architectural plans, interior and exterior elevations, building sections, details, and schedules, compose presentation board graphics, and/or materials boards, generate 3D renderings, and/or build models.
• Understand material properties and be familiar with material detailing requirements and constructability; the ability to identify drawings needed to fully describe building construction and incorporate appropriate content and information on drawings.
• Incorporate the client’s program into spatial solutions, the ability to recognize constructability in design solutions, and the ability to satisfy the client’s design and functional goals within the constraints of existing building conditions and systems.
• Select materials and system alternatives appropriate to design solutions.
• Possess a strong sense of color, an eye for detail, a sense of balance and proportion, balanced with project-appropriate creativity and imagination.
• Possess the ability to communicate ideas both graphically and verbally.
• Possess a working knowledge of design, finish materials, products, construction, codes, specifications, and drawing organization.
• Understand other related disciplines and be able to communicate effectively and coordinate services.
• Have an understanding of Sustainability, a knowledge of LEED and WELL AP certification process and requirements for specific projects.
