About this role
About GILK
GILK is a design-build firm based in the heart of Tampa, formerly known as HGC. We specialize in high-end residential construction, custom home design, historic restoration, and select commercial projects. Our team is focused on delivering exceptional results through process, precision, and creativity.
We don’t settle for average. We push limits and raise standards — for our clients, our projects, and ourselves.
The Role
We’re looking for a sharp, highly organized Interior Department Manager to lead our design team and drive the full interior design process for custom residential construction. This is not just a creative role — it's a leadership position that demands structure, accountability, and proven systems to manage selections, timelines, and client expectations.
You’ll oversee design from concept through completion — including selections, documentation, and execution — working hand-in-hand with clients, architects, project managers, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage all phases of the residential interior design process, from early concepts to final installation.
• Implement and enforce a clear, organized process for making interior and exterior selections within construction schedules and budgets.
• Lead and mentor a small team of interior designers.
• Maintain a current, well-organized selections library and digital resources.
• Coordinate with clients and project teams to track selections, changes, approvals, and ordering.
• Own the project selection schedule — driving deadlines and ensuring clients finalize decisions in alignment with construction milestones.
• Lead client presentations and guide them through the design decision-making process.
• Collaborate with architects, contractors, and trades to ensure buildability and cohesion.
• Review and produce construction documents with an eye for accuracy and detail.
• Stay ahead of design trends, materials, and product innovation.
• Track and maintain budget accuracy through the design and selection process.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years’ experience in high-end residential construction design, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
• Proven ability to manage a structured selections process and hit deadlines.
• Strong working knowledge of construction documents, detailing, and build coordination.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, Revit, BIM 360, Bluebeam, IVY, InDesign, SketchUp, and Lumion.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
• Strong portfolio showing both design creativity and technical execution.
• Strong hand sketching and rendering skills are a plus.
• Exceptional organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
