Job Overview:
Cory Black Design is a residential architectural and interior design firm that is growing rapidly. We are currently seeking an additional part-time and dedicated Interior Design Assistant reporting to the Lead Interior Designer. While supporting the Lead Interior Designer, the Design Assistant role will be an important and integral member of the Cory Black Design team, managing critical responsibilities across multiple projects simultaneously. Ideal candidates are dedicated, determined to learn, upbeat, and possess a strong and detail-oriented work ethic with a passion for excellence. Enthusiasm for architecture and interior design is an absolute must.
Our new team member will collaborate with the Lead Interior Designer to contribute toward organizing, implementing, and managing all aspects of our design process to find solutions that accomplish the client’s design goals. You will often be involved in all stages of design, from programming to design development to construction administration. And therefore, it will play a key role in creating and maintaining accurate and detailed technical drawings and plans, as well as managing project design development folders for various interior design projects. An expertise in CAD software and understanding of interior design principles will contribute to the successful execution of our projects.
This is a part-time, in-person position working from our studio office in Mesa, AZ. Before applying, please ensure that you can commit to an in-office schedule. Qualifications:
Although this is a general outline of job qualifications, all employees are expected to be “hands on” and do whatever it takes to get the job done and make the company thrive, including but not limited to:
• Experience Required: Previous employment at a professional interior design firm, a degree in interior design or currently in school for interior design.
• Proficient in AutoCAD (this position requires fluency and excellence in drafting), rendering programs (Sketchup is a plus), and Excel/Microsoft Word/Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Understanding of interior design principles, space planning, and construction documentation.
• A positive, can-do attitude and effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with designers, architects, and project stakeholders.
• Ability to support the development and maintenance of relationships with vendors.
• Strong attention to detail with organizational skills and time management skills to assist with managing work on multiple projects simultaneously and ensuring that design projects stay on track.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
• Problem-solving skills to identify and resolve design and technical issues.
• A team player with an upbeat and positive demeanor that contributes to the spirit of our collaborative and respectful office culture.
Key Responsibilities:
• Organize and prepare for design presentations in preparation for client meetings, including assisting with presentations in PowerPoint, creating renderings utilizing Sketchup, updating various plans and interior elevation drawings, gathering materials and finishes, and labeling material selections.
• Assist with creating and maintaining organized digital project folders using our internal filing system for floor plans and interior elevations, material finishes and hardware schedules, and specification books. Be open and willing to learn our systemic design approach that we apply toward all projects (training of our filing system and processes is provided). Ability to record accurate and detailed notes during site visits with Lead Interior Designer, as well as during client presentations.
• Maintain continual communication with Lead Interior Designer regarding project statuses and can craft project updates for reporting in weekly team meetings.
• Critically anticipate problems before they arise, while maintaining a solutions-based mindset focused on workarounds during challenging moments.
• Communicate with vendors to acquire samples and quotes ensuring that correct specification information is relayed, and that trade tier pricing is acquired when necessary.
• Source, price, and track various items, including furniture, lighting, hardware, etc., for multiple projects simultaneously.
• Pick up or coordinate drop-off of interior or exterior samples from vendors around the valley.
• Collaborating with Lead Interior Designer to make weekly posts on the Instagram account for interior design while also creating a monthly social media calendar to reflect content to be posted and day of post/s each week.
