Overview
The designer is a key member of the 3GR team, interacting with customers and the construction team from the sales process through project completion. The role is responsible for understanding customer needs and translating their needs into detailed drawings for the construction team, providing guidance to the construction team as needed. This includes developing detailed construction sets.
Often the process involves drawing information out of customers that they don't know how to articulate, so good communication and organization are critical to success in this role. The designer is responsible for helping projects launch successfully by providing clear information to the construction team and ensuring that material procurement is completed efficiently.
Responsibilities and Expectations
• Work with Sales to represent 3GR to customers, quickly building rapport with customers.
• Lead information-gathering meetings with customers to understand how they will use their spaces.
• Convert customer ideas to conceptual designs and then detailed construction sets.
• Create materials lists from drawings for procurement.
• Provide guidance to the construction team throughout the project as needed.
• Plan spaces and finishes, occasionally working with an architect or engineer.
• Present drawings to customers for approval / revision.
• Work with project managers to ensure that construction teams are meeting customers' vision for their homes.
Requirements
• Degree in design or architecture or equivalent experience.
• At least three years' experience doing residential design with direct customer interaction.
• Proficiency with current design/drawing software.
• Experience producing technical drawings, including construction sets and wall sections.
• Understanding of structural elements of residential construction.
• Good familiarity with local building code requirements.
• Outstanding written and verbal communication.
• Excellent organization skills and practices.
• Great interpersonal skills for a wide range of people who will be involved in projects, from homeowners, construction teams, and subcontractors.
• Experience with construction management software is helpful, but not necessary.
