Industrial Design assistant

We are looking for a part-time Industrial Design Assistant / Cost Manager to support a small design and fabrication business. This role focuses on Industrial Design Prototyping, research, sourcing mechanical components. The ideal candidate has a genuine interest in engineering, or is studying engineering, and has some hands-on familiarity with CAD and slicer software. Most work is performed remotely; however, 3D printing tasks are completed on-site at our facility located one block from the Brown Forman Campus in Louisville. Responsibilities in these area: • Conduct research for operational or business needs, IOW, assistant functions • Operate 3D printers and apply slicer software to support prototyping tasks at our on-site facility near the Brown Forman Campus • Compare pricing, availability, and lead times from vendors • Assist with sourcing parts and preparing purchase orders, research suppliers for mechanical components and fabrication materials • Track materials and purchases across multiple projects • Organize invoices, bills, and project documentation Qualifications • Genuine interest in engineering or manufacturing • Working knowledge of CAD software (e.g., Fusion 360 or similar) and slicer software for 3D printing • Experience with FDM or resin printing hardware and settings • Strong research skills • Organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable working independently A plus, but not required: • Experience reading technical drawings, engineering sketches, or parts lists • Background in, or studying mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing engineering • Naturally, able to live in a paperless, application driven, and AI driven world Work Structure This is a flexible part-time role averaging about 10 hours per week. The majority of work is performed remotely on a flexible schedule. 3D printing and prototyping tasks require occasional on-site visits to our facility located approximately one block from the Brown Forman Campus in Louisville, KY. Compensation • $25–$30 per hour depending on experience. This position is structured as a 1099 contractor role.
