About this role

Position Purpose: Join the Home Depot Installation Services (HDIS) team as a Design Consultant, where you'll play a key role in selling our exceptional exterior and interior products and services. Your primary focus will be engaging with customers through outside sales visits to their homes and engaging at trade shows. While some activities may happen virtually or in customer homes, the vast majority of your time will be spent traveling, away from a traditional office setting. Your responsibilities will include assessing customer needs, providing tailored product recommendations, negotiating customized price quotes, detailing warranty information, and discussing financial options that fit each customer’s unique situation—all while maintaining profitability. You'll also handle essential sales paperwork and take precise measurements to ensure installation specifications are met. Additionally, you will actively pursue new customers both inside assigned THD stores and at local industry events, all while building strong relationships with store associates to enhance HDIS program awareness. Key Responsibilities: • Conduct engaging outside sales activities primarily in customers' homes, adapting quickly to their needs while presenting compelling solutions. • Execute necessary sales-related tasks such as customer needs assessments, price quote development, and product measurements. • Present warranty and financing options, prepare for appointments, manage commute to/from these appointments, and process all sales paperwork efficiently. • Actively seek out new customers in both assigned THD stores and at industry events, fostering strong relationships with store management and associates. Direct Manager/Direct Reports: • This position reports to a Sales Manager. • This position has no direct reports. Travel Requirements: • Requires occasional overnight travel, typically less than 10% of the time. Physical Requirements: • Most of the work period involves sitting comfortably with regular opportunities to move. Occasionally, lifting or moving light articles may be necessary. Working Conditions: • Work is usually in a comfortable environment, with periodic exposure to elements causing moderate physical discomfort. • Regular local travel is required. • Reliable transportation is essential. • Travel expenses will be reimbursed in accordance with state and federal law. Minimum Qualifications: • Must be eighteen years of age or older. • Must have legal authorization to work in the United States. Preferred Qualifications: • 3-5 years of in-home or virtual sales experience. • Experience in the home improvement industry. • Proven track record in lead generation. • Technology proficiency, including skills in using email, iPads, apps, etc. Minimum Education: • High school diploma or GED is required. Preferred Education: • No additional education is required. Minimum Work Experience: • At least 3 years of work experience. Preferred Work Experience: • No additional experience required. Certifications: • Design Consultants are expected to maintain an open calendar with 55 hours per week to accommodate customer appointments and prospecting. Competencies: • None specified.
