The Role
The Director of Interior Design is responsible for performing as a lead designer, managing, and overseeing project designers and managers multi-family new development and renovation projects within AvalonBay. This role will work with internal and external project teams on the execution of schematic design, design development and construction documentation on these projects, as well as providing oversight throughout the construction administration phase; collaborating from start to finish providing design vision and ensuring design excellence.
This Role Will
• Lead all interior related projects such as New Development and Interior Renovation Projects (Capital Projects, CapEx and Non-routine projects), provide design thought leadership to regional project teams, for all phases of interior design
• Perform as a lead designer for all in-house designed projects (New Development, Renovation projects) and provide design leadership to internal Design team
• Based on business needs and overall design trends, lead and execute design initiatives and provide strategic design thinking and leadership in updating design standards
• Provide leadership in consultant selection and management
• Manage project pipeline, schedule, budget, and team workflow, allocate appropriate team resources
• Collaborate with internal AvalonBay departments (Regional and Corporate teams) and with external consultants as it relates to project scope
You Have...
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or Interior Design from an accredited program.
• 12-15 years of experience in Architecture, Interior Design, or related field.
• Must be a subject matter expert in all phases of interior design (Schematic Design, Design Development, Construction documentation, Construction administration and Furniture selection process).
• Must have strong communication and collaboration skills.
• Occasional travel required within the US.
• Proficient in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, AutoCAD, and Enscape.
• NCIDQ certification preferred.
• LEED accreditation preferred.
