Position: Design Assistant
Job Overview:
Our company is searching for a creative and motivated Design Assistant or Junior Designer to join our team in the Georgetown office. This role will work under the direction of the Lead Designer and Project Manager and will assist in the various aspects of the design process. The ideal candidate is passionate about design and has a strong understanding of design principles and techniques. The candidate should have excellent attention to detail, be highly organized, and possess strong communication skills. After the introduction period, this role will work four days in the office and one day remote.
Skills & Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related fieldPrior design, architecture, or related internship experience preferred (3+ year required for Junior Designer)Strong proficiency in design and presentation software, including Adobe Creative Suite and SketchUpFamiliarity with Studio Designer a plusStrong creative, organizational, and time-management skillsHigh attention to detail and accuracyAbility to work independently while taking direction and feedback effectivelyExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsClient-service mindset with empathy and professionalismCollaborative, enthusiastic team player willing to support the broader studioInterest in learning and growing within a high-end residential design environmentAccess to a car preferred
Physical Requirements
Ability to physically navigate active project and construction sites, including ascending and descending stairsAbility to lift and carry packages, samples, or materials up to 30 lbs as neededAbility to stand or move for extended periods during site visits, installs, or errandsAbility to clearly communicate with clients, contractors, vendors, and team members in both office and on-site environments
Key Responsibilities
Design & Project Support
Support design operations for the design team, including vendor communication and quote processingAssist in the design process by creating initial concepts, sketches, layouts, and visual studies under directionResearch design trends, materials, finishes, and color schemesSource fabrics and materials based on client input and design directionOrder samples, produce sample boards, and assist with material presentations
Documentation, Schedules & Accuracy
Create and maintain finish schedules and furniture schedulesVerify sourcing details, including dimensions, material suitability, pricing, and budget alignmentApply judgment when reviewing costs and selections, escalating questions as neededAssist with creating and revising space plans, keeping drawings up to date with decisionsMaintain organized project files and accurate documentation
Presentations & Visual Standards
Prepare and update design presentations and visual materialsCreate mood boards, arrange selections, label boards, and apply studio visual standards (e.g., layout consistency, drop shadows)Maintain up-to-date presentations, including revisions after meetingsEnsure presentation links are current, clear, and easy to navigate for clients and internal teams
Studio & Sample Library Support
Maintain the sample library and ensure samples are logged, organized, and up to dateKeep an updated log of samples in the sample trackerSupport overall studio organization and upkeep related to design materials
Coordination & Communication
Support the design team in liaising with clients, vendors, and consultantsConfirm design team appointments and manage calendar entries as directedAssist with weekly client updates and tracking goals and action itemsMaintain client packets and ensure materials are current and accurateComplete errands and bookings required by designers, including picking up samples, making returns, and coordinating deliveriesSupport site visits and installations as needed
Task & Workflow Management
Maintain assigned tasks in ClickUp or project management softwareMark tasks complete prior to standups or reviewsTrack due dates and communicate proactively with managers about workload or conflicts
