Project Assistant – Retail Interior Design & Construction (NYC) Doncata Projects | New York, NY | Project-based, hours flexible Start: Immediately | End: July 2026 (with potential to extend for the right fit) Rate: project based, rate depending on experience About Us Doncata Projects is a small, design-driven studio working on a handful of retail interior design and construction projects across New York and other cities. We work hands-on with clients, architects, and trades from concept through install. The Role We're looking for a sharp, dependable assistant to help keep multiple active retail fit-out projects moving. This is a true jack-of-all-trades role — one day you might be reconciling a budget tracker, the next you're running fixture samples to a job site or sitting in on a punch walk. It's an ideal fit for someone who is interested in interior design, architecture, or construction and wants real exposure to how retail projects come together. What You'll Be Doing Maintaining project budgets, purchase logs, and tracking outstanding invoices Building and updating project schedules; flagging slips and dependencies Researching fixtures, finishes, and materials and pulling cut sheets / specs Coordinating samples, deliveries, and vendor follow-ups Supporting on-site installs — from receiving deliveries to staging, light coordination with trades, and punch list follow-up Drafting and organizing communication with subcontractors and consultants General admin: filing, document control, meeting notes, expense tracking Whatever else needs doing to keep projects on track What We're Looking For Reliable and punctual. When you say you'll be somewhere or have something done, you do. Organized and detail-oriented. Comfortable with spreadsheets, calendars, and shared drives. Genuine interest in interior design, architecture, construction, or retail environments. Based in New York and able to travel within the city to job sites as needed. Comfortable in active construction environments (or willing to get there quickly). Strong written communication — you'll be emailing vendors and consultants regularly. Bonus: experience with project management tools (Asana, Monday, Smartsheet), familiarity with reading drawings, or prior experience on retail / hospitality / residential projects. Logistics Schedule: Project-based and flexible. Hours will fluctuate week to week depending on what's active. Compensation: It will be project based and paid in installments. Duration: Through July 2026, with the possibility of extension if it's a strong fit. Location: New York, NY. Hybrid of remote admin work and on-site presence at project locations.
