About this role

Job description: Skilled, energetic and personable Interior Designer or Kitchen and Bathroom Designers to handle kitchen, bathroom, and other construction-related design projects for a dynamic and established interior design firm in New Haven, CT. Best candidates will have substantial kitchen and bathroom design experience, experience developing construction documentation, excellent organizational and record-keeping skills, and superlative phone, email, and in-person communication skills. Some sales experience is required. Strong computer and mobile device skills are required. Field measuring and sketching skills are required. Skill in 3D CAD software is required. Must have your own reliable transportation. This position is commission-based, so it has to be the right fit for you as an employee. There is excellent earning potential, as our firm is growing and expanding, the schedule is flexible, and we offer health insurance. We are looking to establish a long-term relationship with whoever is hired for this position. Responsibilities: • Conducting initial design consultation meetings with new residential and commercial clients one-on-one to discuss their projects in terms of their wants and needs and taking notes on their directives. • Developing initial design solutions during the initial consultation meetings in the presence of the clients and taking notes on responses. • Discussion of project budget in a sensitive manner. • Photography to document the spaces in question. • Following up with clients via email to summarize design consultation meetings from notes and establishing a pathway forward for their design projects. • On-site measuring of spaces and creation of dimensioned sketches for translation into 3D CAD software. • Development of digital and physical design boards and presentations for client review. • Timeline coordination with clients, managing and updating work calendar to reflect client appointments and availability. • Meeting with contractors as needed to discuss project parameters and review project plans and renderings. • Conducting shopping trips with or without clients to project-relevant vendors. • Coordination of vendor quotes and presentation of quotes to clients. • Conducting site visits while projects are under way to assist with decision-making, to review progress, and to provide quality control. • Arrangement of furniture and furnishings, including hanging pictures when required. • Communication with clients throughout the design, purchasing, and implementation processes. • Collecting payment from clients when required. • Coordination with the COO and Purchasing and Procurement Specialist for project status updates, project purchasing, shipping and delivery, etc. • Attending a weekly staff meeting remotely and occasionally in person. Requirements: • Documented experience with residential kitchen, bathroom, interior design, and construction projects. Minimum 3 years • Ability to see a project through from start to finish. • Ability to multitask and manage multiple projects simultaneously. • Ability to photograph spaces for documentation purposes. • Ability to create accurate dimensioned and annotated hand sketches. • Customer service and sales experience. • Excellent organizational skills, and ability to prioritize client needs. • Superlative phone, email, and in-person communication skills, including a kind and empathetic demeanor, and excellent spelling and grammar. • Experienced with iPad. • Experienced with Microsoft Office and Google Calendar. • Photoshop experience is a plus. • Ivy/Houzz Pro experience is a plus. • Chief Architect, Revit, or alternate 3D design software experience is required. Minimum 3 years experience. • Outgoing personality, kindness, and empathy. • Reliable transportation to and from clients throughout Connecticut, and to and from our New Haven location.
