Job Overview: The Design Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Director of Design to ensure that multiple residential and hospitality projects meet the high standards of Reef, the project development entity, and owner expectations. This is achieved by providing oversight in design, schedule, construction, and quality adherence from the project's inception to its completion. The Design Assistant will be a key player in the project team, expected to effectively communicate Reef's project objectives, assist in managing the external design team, attend project meetings, and coordinate with contractors and vendors. Our ideal candidate for the Design Assistant role will have 3-5 years of experience in residential and hospitality architecture, interior architecture, or interior design with strong graphic, drafting, and project documentation skills. As a Design Assistant, you will work under the Director of Design to oversee all aspects of the design process, from schematic design to construction management. Responsibilities May Include: • Assist in preparing preliminary space plans, design concept studies, sketches, test fits, and electronic takeoffs. • Provide support through project documentation, including 3D modeling and visualization, rendered floor plans and elevations, and project specifications and drawings. • Perform site visits, field verification, and construction administration services, including responding to RFIs, reviewing control samples and shop drawings, coordinating consultants, manufacturers, and contractors, and completing punch lists. • Coordinate and collaborate with external design professionals retained to provide professional services such as architectural design, engineering, and various other specialties. • Assist the Construction Team on a per-project basis: attend meetings, address RFIs, Submittals, Shop Drawings, Field Observations and Inspections, Reporting, Punch List, etc. • Provide design support and advice on project development needs. • Assist the Director of Design in establishing Reef design standards and best practices to drive quality design. • Prepare for and attend meetings as requested and produce meeting minutes. • Prepare coordination reviews of plans to ensure quality control in project drawings. Qualifications: • Degree in Interior Architecture, Interior Design, or Architecture • Minimum 3-5 years design experience • Comprehensive knowledge of architecture and interior design scopes in residential and hospitality design standards • Excellent presentation skills, including space planning and drawing. • Proficiency in Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam Sketchup (or similar 3D modeling software), and Twin Motion (or similar 3D rendering software) • Strong experience in management and coordination of construction drawing sets with knowledge of detailing, materials, fabrication, interior finishes, programming, and codes. • Experience selecting and specifying materials, interior finishes, cabinetry, appliances, decorative fixtures, hardware, etc., is a plus. • Must have excellent communication skills and be comfortable interacting with external design professionals, vendors, contractors, and internal staff. • Ability to field measure and document existing conditions. • Ability to interact effectively with the design team on multiple projects. • Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented environment with shifting priorities. • Ability to multitask and prioritize work with good time management.
