About the Program
The Summer Designer, Interiors role is part of the Nicholas E. Vlattas Summer Scholars Program established in 2003. The program brings students together from diverse academic backgrounds for hands-on engagement in an integrated design and professional practice environment.
Summer Designers are fully embedded within project teams, contributing to active work while gaining exposure to interior design exploration, technical documentation, construction administration, and project management. The role emphasizes collaboration, critical thinking, and technical skill development across multiple phases of professional practice, aligned with the Interior Design Experience Program (IDEP).
In addition to project work, Summer Scholars participate in enrichment opportunities such as 3D software workshops, hand rendering, marketing, the business of design, firm forums, design travel, and site tours of projects under construction. The program offers a unique opportunity to build professional confidence and develop an understanding of design grounded in meaningful connections to place and community.
