Design Assistant

Gregory Blake Sams Interiors is looking for a detail-oriented design assistant to join our downtown Charleston studio on a part-time basis. This role is ideal for a designer who is comfortable taking projects from the early stages of design through sourcing, documentation, procurement, construction coordination, and installation. The right candidate will bring strong design instincts, exceptional organization, and the ability to confidently manage multiple moving pieces while working closely with the rest of the design team. We are a small, collaborative studio and are looking for someone who is proactive, resourceful, and excited to contribute both creatively and operationally to our projects. The Role Collaborate with the senior designer on the design and execution of high-end residential and hospitality projects Research, source, and specify furniture, antiques, lighting, textiles, wallcoverings, rugs, finishes, artwork, and accessories Create and develop AutoCAD drawings, including furniture plans, elevations, and other project documentation Assist in preparing client presentations, finish schedules, specifications, proposals, and other project materials Communicate and coordinate with architects, builders, artisans, fabricators, workrooms, vendors, and other project partners Track project timelines, deadlines, open items, and outstanding decisions to ensure projects continue moving forward Support all aspects of procurement, including obtaining pricing, reviewing proposals and orders, communicating with vendors, tracking purchases, and coordinating installation logistics Keep project, purchasing, and financial information organized and up to date within Studio Designer Attend client meetings, job sites, deliveries, and installations throughout the Charleston area as needed Assist with maintaining the studio’s sample library, materials, and overall organization Ideal Candidate Background working within a reputable high-end residential design firm Strong knowledge of FF&E, textiles, custom furnishings, workrooms, vendors, procurement, and installation Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Google Workspace Comfortable reading architectural drawings and collaborating with architects, contractors, and trades Highly organized with strong follow-through and project-management skills Excellent written and verbal communication abilities Sophisticated design sensibility and a strong eye for proportion, materials, and detail Self-directed and capable of managing responsibilities independently while working effectively within a collaborative team Located in or near Charleston and available to work primarily from our downtown studio
