Position SummaryKitchen & Floor Decor, Inc. is seeking a highly motivated, sales-driven Residential Designer to join our growing team. This is not a traditional design-only position. The Residential Designer will be responsible for creating exceptional kitchen and interior designs while actively driving sales, developing their own sales leads, building customer relationships, and helping grow KFD's residential business.
The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, competitive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environment where priorities can change quickly. This individual must be able to manage multiple customers, designs, quotes, follow-ups, orders, and projects simultaneously while maintaining excellent attention to detail and customer service.
Key ResponsibilitiesSales & Business DevelopmentActively drive residential sales and work toward individual and department sales goals.Generate your own sales leads through networking, referrals, contractors, builders, real estate professionals, past customers, community relationships, and other prospecting activities.Develop new relationships with homeowners, contractors, builders, property investors, and other potential customers.Follow up consistently with new leads, open proposals, previous customers, and prospective accounts.Convert showroom traffic, phone inquiries, online inquiries, and self-generated leads into appointments and sales.Identify opportunities to increase each sale through additional products and services.Cross-sell KFD products, including cabinetry, countertops, flooring, appliances, windows, doors, and related renovation services.Maintain an active sales pipeline and take ownership of opportunities from initial contact through closing.Ask for referrals and develop repeat-business opportunities.Participate in showroom events, contractor events, networking opportunities, and other KFD marketing initiatives.Design & Customer ExperienceMeet with customers to understand their needs, style preferences, budget, timeline, and overall project goals.Develop functional and visually appealing kitchen, bath, cabinetry, and interior design concepts.Create professional designs, layouts, renderings, and presentations using 20/20 Design software and other applicable tools.Assist customers with cabinetry, countertops, flooring, hardware, finishes, colors, and other product selections.Educate customers on available products, options, upgrades, and pricing.Prepare accurate proposals and communicate pricing clearly.Guide customers through the decision-making process and confidently ask for the sale.Provide a professional, responsive, and positive customer experience from initial consultation through project completion.Project & Workflow ManagementWork effectively in a busy, fast-moving workflow with multiple active customers and projects at various stages.Manage multiple designs, revisions, estimates, appointments, follow-ups, orders, and deadlines simultaneously.Prioritize workload based on customer needs, project deadlines, and sales opportunities.Coordinate measurements, product selections, ordering, delivery, installation, and project timelines with KFD departments.Verify designs, dimensions, specifications, and orders for accuracy before submission.Communicate proactively with customers regarding project status, changes, delays, or additional information needed.Maintain complete and accurate customer, project, proposal, and sales information.Work closely with Sales, Operations, Project Management, Purchasing, and Installation teams to ensure a smooth customer experience.Follow established KFD procedures while remaining flexible enough to respond to the demands of a high-volume environment.Sales ExpectationsThe Residential Designer is expected to own their sales pipeline rather than rely solely on leads provided by KFD. Success in this position requires consistent prospecting, relationship development, follow-up, and closing activity.
The designer will be expected to:
Build and maintain an active pipeline of residential opportunities.Consistently develop new self-generated leads.Respond quickly to incoming opportunities.Maintain regular follow-up with open proposals and prospects.Convert appointments and designs into signed sales.Develop contractor, builder, realtor, and referral relationships.Meet or exceed established monthly and annual sales goals.Track sales activity, opportunities, follow-ups, and results.Take accountability for individual sales performance and pipeline growth.Qualifications5+ years of residential kitchen, cabinetry, interior design, or related industry experience preferred.Strong proficiency with 20/20 Design software strongly preferred.Proven ability to sell products and services in a customer-facing environment.Experience developing leads and building a personal book of business is highly desirable.Strong understanding of cabinetry, countertops, flooring, appliances, and/or residential renovation products.Ability to read measurements, layouts, plans, and product specifications.Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.Strong closing and negotiation skills.Highly organized with the ability to manage numerous projects and deadlines simultaneously.Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment where priorities frequently change.Self-motivated and able to work independently without waiting for leads or assignments.Detail-oriented and committed to accuracy.Strong computer and CRM skills.Professional appearance and customer-focused attitude.Ideal CandidateThe ideal Residential Designer is someone who combines design talent with a strong sales mentality.
