About this role
Interior Designer & Space Planner
Job Type: Full-time
Expected hours: 40 per week
Benefits: 401(k) 4% Match, Dental insurance, Health insurance, Paid Time Off, Vision insurance, Profit Share
Schedule: Day shift, Monday to Friday
Experience: Design and space planning experience desired, ideally within a commercial interiors or furniture dealership environment.
HHG Interiors is seeking a technically minded Interior Designer & Space Planner to join our Business Interiors team. This role is ideal for a design professional who is equally comfortable on the creative and the technical sides of commercial interiors—someone who can move from space planning and concept all the way through detailed space planning, specification, presentation, and installation-ready documentation.
While creativity matters, this position leans heavily toward the technical. We're looking for someone who understands not just the products, but how they're built and put together—down to the individual parts and components. You should be confident reading and producing detailed drawings, taking accurate field measurements, and specifying systems furniture and architectural wall systems at the component level.
The ideal candidate has hands-on experience with systems furniture and architectural/movable walls, including systems furniture and wall systems (and walls in general). You take pride in accuracy, organization, and technical problem-solving, and you understand that great design is about function, flow, and constructability as much as aesthetics.
You'll work closely with the Director of Design, sales team, and clients to translate needs into thoughtful, technically sound, well-executed designs that align with brand and project goals. This is a hands-on role with opportunities to grow, contribute to process improvement, and be part of a team that values precision, collaboration, and continuous learning.
About the Position
As an Interior Designer & Space Planner with Business Interiors, you'll play an essential role in developing space plans, renderings, technical drawings, specifications, and installation documentation that bring client visions to life—and ensure they can actually be built and installed. You'll be in the field taking measurements, at the desk designing, and coordinating with sales and project management to ensure design intent and technical accuracy are achieved from initial concept through installation.
This position desires strong designing and technical ability, a deep working understanding of how furniture and wall systems are assembled, and sharp attention to detail. Success in this role means delivering accurate solutions while maintaining strong communication and teamwork across departments.
Responsibilities Include
Create accurate space plans, renderings, technical drawings, specifications, and installation drawings using CAD, CET Designer, CAP, or SPEC software.
Conduct field measurements and site verification to confirm dimensions, existing conditions, and field constraints before designing and specification.
Develop complete furniture and wall-system specifications—not just at the product level, but down to the individual parts and components—ensuring accuracy in selection, quantities, pricing, and finishes in alignment with manufacturer standards.
Specify and detail systems furniture and architectural/movable wall systems, including systems furniture and wall systems, with an understanding of how panels, connectors, trim, raceways, glass, and other components fit together.
Produce installation-ready drawings and packets that clearly communicate how products are configured and assembled in the field.
Partner with sales and design leadership to understand client goals, program requirements, and project scope.
Support design development through product selection, finish coordination, and material specification.
Prepare and update project documentation, including quotes, presentations, and installation packets.
Maintain organized project files and ensure timely completion of all design and drafting deliverables.
Participate in client and internal project meetings to communicate design intent and technical detail.
Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers for product information, pricing, parts/components, and technical details.
Contribute to the upkeep of the materials library and showroom resources.
Collaborate with peers to improve design processes and ensure consistency across projects.
Stay current on furniture systems, wall systems, workplace trends, and evolving technical solutions.
Qualifications
Associates degree in Drafting/CAD or Bachelors Degree in Interior Design or a related field.
Design and space planning experience desired, ideally within a commercial interiors or furniture dealership environment.
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite; experience with CET Designer, CAP, Sketch Up or SPEC strongly preferred; Revit a plus.
Experience taking field measurements and verifying site conditions desired but not required.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
