Position Overview
Perkins Eastman is a global architectural design practice with 24 studios worldwide. Our Pittsburgh studio is seeking an Interior Designer I with 0-4 years’ experience predominantly in workplace design. In this role, you will work closely with designers and architects to design, document, and execute interior architectural elements from concept through construction administration. Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with the team to envision the concept story, project narrative, and graphics for presentations.
Assist with space planning and furniture layouts, applying knowledge of local codes and test fit planning.
Work with the architectural team to integrate interior design elements with the overall project vision and coordinate with other consultants.
Prepare schedules for interior design elements including finishes, lighting, door hardware, accessories, and plumbing fixtures.
Identify issues that require review by a Senior Designer or Project Manager and communicate them in a timely manner.
Coordinate shop drawings and samples (both FF&E and contractor-related) under senior approval.
Liaise with clients, contractors, and project teams as appropriate.
Attend site meetings with owners, consultants, and contractors.
Conduct surveys and document existing conditions, with familiarity in using Kuula or similar software.
Develop and prepare presentations at various project stages under Senior Designer direction.
Present project design materials internally to the Principal in Charge.
Assist in programming and comprehensive analysis of project requirements.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree from a 4-year CIDA accredited Interior Design program or equivalent.
0-4 years of related industry experience.
Proficient in Revit and design software such as AutoCAD, Complete Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), Rhino, MS Office, and 3D software like SketchUp and Enscape.
Strong understanding of building and ADA codes and interior construction documents, including floor plans, elevations, and finish schedules.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills with the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
Preferred Qualifications
Familiarity with Kuula and similar software is a plus.
Additional design software proficiency beyond the basics is beneficial.
