INTERIOR DESIGN ASSISTANT

Duties This position provides interior design support including signage for the Ralph H. Johnson VAMC in Charleston, South Carolina. The Ralph H. Johnson VAMC is a level 1b tertiary care facility in the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) 7 and is affiliated with the Medical University of South Carolina. The interior design program is responsible for an Area of Responsibility (AOR) that covers the main Medical Center as well as numerous Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC's), Administrative Buildings, Warehouses and Vet Centers covering the coast from Savannah to North Myrtle Beach. The incumbent is responsible for providing assistance to the Interior Designer in developing and maintaining the Interior Design Program for all properties in the AOR. Performs technical, administrative, or professional work involving managing, administering, operating or supporting services and programs related to the operation and safety of Federal facilities. Provides clerical and administrative support in the identification of client needs within interior design section. Analyzes needs, proposes options, and develops specific solutions under the guidance of the Senior Interior Designer. Act as a liaison, for the Senior Interior Designer at meetings, answering questions, giving opinions and taking action on matters involving Interior Design. Provides advice, assistance and support to the Senior Interior Designer to improve program operations, will make regular oral and written progress reports, and will recommend changes as necessary. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Position Description Title/PD#: Interior Designer Assistant/534-07854-O Qualifications To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-05) in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include providing assistance to the Interior Designer, providing advice on all spaces involved in new construction projects from construction drawings, preparing detailed requests for ordering interior materials/furnishings, influencing decisions by analyzing user requirements and the availability of furnishings, creating designs and furnishes buildings and medical facilities, etc. OR Applicants may substitute education for the experience required for the GS-07 level. 36 semester hours of graduate education or superior academic achievement in a field directly related to this position meets the education requirement. (Transcripts must be submitted if using education to qualify.) OR Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-07 level. To calculate, first identify the percentage of required education you have earned (when substituting, you cannot use the first 18 semester of graduate hours that you earned). Then identify the percentage of required experience you possess. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent to qualify at the GS-07. For example, an applicant who has 27 semester hours of undergraduate level education (i.e. 50% of education required) and 6 months of creditable specialized experience (i.e. 50% of the required experience) would equal 100% of the required experience for the position.
