Position Summary
The Design Consultant plays a key role in delivering an exceptional customer experience by guiding homebuyers through the selection of standard features and upgrade options. This role is responsible for documenting and processing selections, managing change orders, and ensuring all design specifications are accurately prepared for construction.
Key Responsibilities
Customer Experience & Design Consultations
Lead customers through design selections, including standard features and upgrade options aligned with their style and budgetConduct welcome calls, orientation tours, selection appointments, and final review/authorization meetingsEducate customers on products, pricing, and design possibilitiesEnsure all selections are accurate, complete, and compliant with company policiesDeliver a high-touch, professional experience throughout the design and construction processDocumentation & Systems Management
Enter and manage customer selections, contracts, and change orders in company systems (e.g., NewStar Sales, CMS, BuildPro)Prepare and distribute all required documentation for construction and permittingMaintain accurate records of addenda, deposits, and approvalsUpload and organize all design-related documentation in internal systemsDesign Studio Operations
Maintain a clean, organized, and customer-ready Design StudioEnsure samples, displays, and merchandising are current and properly presentedPrepare customer files and materials ahead of scheduled appointmentsCross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with Sales, Purchasing, Construction, and Customer Service teams to ensure alignment and accuracyCommunicate design selections and updates clearly to internal stakeholdersSupport model home selections and inventory home design coordinationAssist in resolving discrepancies and ensuring proper installation of selectionsTechnical & Layout Preparation
Prepare detailed layouts and redlines for structural, electrical, cabinetry, flooring, and other design elementsReview plans with customers and obtain approvalsEnsure all documentation is complete and submitted on time to support construction timelinesAdditional Responsibilities
Monitor and manage change requests in accordance with company policiesReview deposit reports to ensure timely collectionProvide feedback on product offerings and design library updatesParticipate in training and ongoing professional development
Qualifications
Education & Experience
Associate degree in Design, Business, Marketing, or a related field preferredEquivalent work experience may be considered in place of educationExperience in homebuilding, interior design, construction, or a related field is a plusSkills & Abilities
Strong knowledge of construction processes and customer service principlesExcellent communication, organization, and time management skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities with strong attention to detailProficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)Experience with CRM and construction software (e.g., NewStar) preferredStrong problem-solving, analytical, and interpersonal skills
