Associate Technical Designer
Position Summary
The Associate Technical Designer supports the design and construction teams by developing technical drawings, 3D models, and project documentation that accurately communicate design intent. Working closely with the Studio Director, Senior Designer, and Construction Team, this role plays a critical part in transforming conceptual designs into buildable solutions. The ideal candidate possesses strong drafting and visualization skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a passion for high-end residential design.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Documentation & Drawing Production
Develop and maintain detailed construction documents, technical drawings, elevations, sections, millwork details, and design packages. Translate design concepts and sketches into accurate, buildable documentation. Coordinate drawing sets with consultants, vendors, and internal construction teams. Assist in maintaining drawing standards and quality control throughout project development. Review drawings and documentation for consistency, accuracy, and constructability.
3D Modeling & Visualization
Create and maintain SketchUp models and other visualizations throughout the design process. Produce models that support design development, client presentations, construction coordination, and detailing. Generate renderings, perspectives, and visual tools to communicate design intent.
Design & Project Support
Support the Studio Director and Senior Designer in the development and execution of projects from concept through construction. Assist with finish selections, product research, material documentation, and design presentations. Participate in internal design reviews and project coordination meetings. Maintain organized project files and documentation.
Construction Coordination
Collaborate closely with the construction team to ensure design intent is clearly communicated and properly executed. Assist with responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings, and coordinating technical details with trades and vendors. Support field verification, site visits, and documentation of existing conditions as required.
Client Interaction
Attend client meetings and presentations as a supporting member of the project team. Communicate project information professionally and effectively. Assist with preparing presentation materials and documenting meeting outcomes.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field. 5-7 years of professional experience in residential interior design, architecture, or design build environments. Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and SketchUp. Experience with rendering and visualization software preferred. Strong understanding of residential construction methods, detailing, and documentation standards. Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment. Passion for luxury residential design and craftsmanship.

Success in This Role
Produces highly accurate and coordinated technical documentation. Creates clear visual and technical communication between the design and construction teams. Supports project delivery while maintaining the firm's design standards. Contributes to a collaborative, detail-oriented, and client-focused project experience.
