More than 3,000 fabrics are also available online, and Calico supports both consumers and professional designers through dedicated programs and services. Calico’s mission is to make homes more beautiful and comfortable through custom decorating. The Designer will collaborate with customers in-store and in their homes to develop tailored decorating solutions, including fabric selections, custom window treatments, and upholstered furniture concepts. Strong interior design and space-planning skills, with the ability to coordinate fabrics, colors, patterns, and finishes for residential spaces.Proficiency in presenting design concepts clearly, including sketches, mood boards, or basic digital visualization tools.Customer-focused consultation skills, including active listening, needs assessment, and the ability to translate client preferences into practical design solutions.Solid organizational and project management abilities to handle multiple custom orders, timelines, and follow-ups with attention to detail.Comfort with in-store point-of-sale systems and basic computer skills for quoting, ordering, and maintaining client records.Knowledge of custom window treatments, upholstery, and soft goods (or willingness to learn quickly through training).Effective verbal and written communication skills, with a professional, inclusive, and collaborative approach to working with customers and teammates.Previous experience in interior design, home décor retail, or a related field; a degree or certification in Interior Design or a similar discipline is preferred but not required.Ability to work on-site in Glen Allen, VA, including weekends or evenings as needed, and to conduct occasional in-home design visits.Commitment to providing an equitable, respectful experience for customers and colleagues from diverse backgrounds.
